


Piercy&Company are leading the design strategy for the Quarter and are lead architects on the retrofit of three existing buildings – Jahn Court, Times House and the Laundry Buildings. The planned extension and refurbishment of Jahn Court forms part of Endurance Land’s ten-year vision to revitalise Regent Quarter, a mixed-use 3.5 acre urban quarter east of King’s Cross station. The Supermodels exhibition is located in the Jahn Court building, which is currently at the often unseen point of a project between strip out works and construction. Supermodels seek to reconnect digital and physical worlds through a childlike sense of wonder and unfiltered joy. The evocation of delight is intentionally egalitarian - an exploration of a mode of architectural communication that is ageless and universal. The ‘coming alive’ of the models through film, sound and movement plays into the mysterious allure of objects with a miniature life of their own - the dolls house, the cuckoo clock, the model railway. However, as with most interesting social phenomena, a limited number of models exclusively cater to the plus-size market. The models were made over a five year period in Piercy&Co's London studio by the architectural team, between and around projects.Įach super model is based on a building by Piercy&Co - some built, some unbuilt - and abstracted to capture the kernel of the idea behind the building. 40 Beautiful Plus-Size Models 2022 Last Updated JBy Lita Watson In a society where thin is the best, it is refreshing to see those proud of their curves. Rather, they are a creative body of work and an experiment in how far the model can be pushed as a tool for communicating architectural ideas. The mechanical automata, projection mapping, sound, light and scent employed by Piercy&Co in Supermodels are not the everyday techniques and products of an architectural project. A supermodel is a highly paid fashion model who usually has a worldwide reputation and often a background in haute couture and commercial modeling. Supermodels represents the distillation of 20 years of the studio’s design thinking around the importance of the haptic, sensorial and experiential in architecture.

They commanded sizable checks, were stalwarts on billboards and commercials, and attracted headlines for their jet-setting lifestyles. Indeed, these names and more prove that supermodels existed well before the era of elegance.

They served as muses, walking embodiments of the glamour they sought to present.įrom Iman and Anna Bayle to Jerry Hall and Brooke Shields, these veritable icons paved the way for the It girls of the ’90s, the perceived heyday of the modeling industry when Linda Evangelista and Naomi Campbell reigned supreme. And there to strut down their runways and grace their campaigns were the top models. It was a time when flaunting excess was de rigueur, when designers like Christian Lacroix, Claude Montana, Carolyne Roehm, Yves Saint Laurent, Oscar de la Renta, and Chanel’s Karl Lagerfeld piled on the pomp and pageantry. Bold shoulders, big hair, and a whole lot of bling characterized fashion in the ’80s.
